The Stanton
Fellow Award was created
to acknowledge the heroes of academia by publicly applauding
their important contributions to electronic media education.
The winner will receive travel and accommodations
to the Faculty/Industry
Seminar of his or her choice, as well as a $500
cash award. A plaque is presented during the conference,
and the
individual's
accomplishments are publicly lauded.
Dr. Stanton, who served as President of CBS from 1946-1973,
is a legendary champion of First Amendment rights for
broadcast journalists. He has often been recognized
for his dedication to the advancement of electronic
media education. "I have long held the notion that
there should be greater interface between campus and
industry in all walks of life," Dr. Stanton once
told an IRTS audience. "In anything that changes
as rapidly as communications, more over, it is even
more vital that there be a close working relationship
between those who teach and those who practice."
Nominations are being reviewed and the
2006 Stanton Fellow will be announced soon.
